A set of back-to-back weekend events begins Saturday, Sept. 10, for Manchester University.
Meet details: Race times for the Hanover College Madison Kiwanis Invitational on the campus' cross country course are 10 a.m. for the men and 10:45 a.m. for the women … The meet affords the Spartans and the field a sneak peek at the 2016 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships' venue.
Spartan Shorts: Putting two men's pairings in the top five and three of the same in the women's event left Manchester University head coach Geoff Lambert smiling Thursday, Sept. 1, after the season-opening Hokum Karem. The Spartans' men's senior class picked up where it left off in 2015. Thomas Dean (Bremen, Ind.) and Alex Gudeman (Rochester, Ind.) teamed up for the men's individual title, finishing nearly five full seconds in front of Trine University's top pairing. Connor Bresnahan (Portage, Mich.) and Blake Harris (Fort Wayne, Ind.) were the next in line for MU, taking third. On the women's side of the ledger, the freshman duo of Emily Ewen (Wolcott, Ind.) and Hannah Wappes (Columbia City, Ind.) placed second. Senior Mariah Jordan (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and sophomore Samina Qureshi (Columbia City, Ind.) wound up third, and seniors Tiffany Harber (Columbia City, Ind.) and Ruth Ritchey-Moore (Bryan, Ohio) took fifth … MU's last trip to Hanover, in 2014, was fruitful. The men won the team title, paced by a third-place individual effort from Bresnahan, while the women ended third with Jordan capturing the top spot … Jordan looks to continue her incredible low-finisher streak for the Spartans' women's program. She's done so in 19 consecutive traditional meets … Lambert's teams follow up the Hanover meet with a trip to Bloomington, Ind., and Indiana University's Championship Course Friday, Sept. 16, for the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships.
