A fourth-place men's finish and eighth-place women's ending were predicted by the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference basketball coaches polls, released Oct. 25 and 26.
MU's men, coming off a 2015-16 campaign in which they wound up 13-13 overall and 10-8 in league play in route to their first postseason conference tournament berth since 2011, received 66 points and one first-place vote. Defending co-champion Mt. St. Joseph University of Ohio was tabbed the favorite (93 points – six first-place votes) with Transylvania University of Kentucky second (74 points – one first-place vote) and Hanover College third (73 points – one first-place vote).
Coach Gerad Good's squad was represented by a pair of guards, sophomore Adrian Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.), and senior Chase Casteel (Monrovia, Ind.), on the Players to Watch section.
Manchester University's women's team earned 31 points, just eight shy of the top seven. Rose-Hulman was the unanimous favorite, garnering 100 points and all 10 first-place honors, while Bluffton University of Ohio was picked second (85 points).
