MU seeks more successes at HCAC Invite

The stretch swim for the 2017 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships begins for Manchester University begins Saturday, Jan. 21.

Meet details: The Spartans' men's and women's teams are part of the field at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Invitational. Franklin College is meet host with the event set at the Franklin Community School District high school natatorium … Competition begins at 1 p.m.

Spartan Shorts: Junior diver Ally Roskos (Elkhart, Ind.), junior swimmer Emily Clark (Peru, Ind.) and sophomore swimmer Jamie McBride (Elkhart, Ind.) have had previous success at the HCACs for the women's program. Roskos was the 2015 champion and 2016 runner-up, while Clark turned in a top five mark in the 100-yard butterfly as a freshman and McBride was part of three top five events a year ago. Sophomores Annika Barce (Fowler, Ind.) and Mikki Goetz (Highland, Ind.) were also among a top five effort in the 200-yard medley relay last winter… Members of the men's team with returning success are focused around the sophomore trio of swimmers Guerby Ruuksa (Rensselaer, Ind.), Quinn-Michael L'Heureux (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Nathan Koch (Columbia City, Ind.). They all registered top eight marks at the 2016 meet … Coach Mike Kroll's squad is coming off a dual against fellow OAC member Wilmington College where they set six new school records. Roskos did so on the board and also hit the first of two required qualifying scores of 390-or-more points for regionals; sophomore men's diver Anjel Clemente (Rensselaer, Ind.), as he has done throughout the season, set new marks in the five, six and combined 11 dive categories; and Clark did so in the 100-yard individual medley and her leg of the 200-yard medley relay which was the 50-yard backstroke. L'Heureux and McBride added to the event titles against the Quakers, as L'Heureux led a one-two finish in the 100-yard breaststroke and McBride swept the 100-yard breaststroke and 1000-yard freestyle races.

Home Finale: Anderson University and Olivet College of Michigan visit the Strauss-Peabody Fitness and Aquatic Center for a triangular Saturday, Jan. 28.
