WABASH, IND. – Junior Jacob Hopkins (Kokomo, Ind.) and freshman Zach Edwards (Plainfeld, Ind.) made it a happy holiday weekend for the Manchester University men's golf team Friday, April 14.
After a back-and-forth afternoon of 18 holes against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Anderson University at Honeywell Golf Course, Coach Tara Boone's team made quick work of a match-play win in playoff fashion. Hopkins and Edwards toppled their Raven foes, while sophomore Connor Labedz (Aurora, Ill.) halved his match-up.
Hopkins, who defeated Micah Sentf 4 and 2, was the individual medalist with a 76. Senior Andrew Topp (Monticello, Ind.) captured the other regulation match, besting Zach Whitaker 3 and 2.
Manchester University's women also took to the Honeywell course with junior Katie Smith (Wabash, Ind.) and sophomore Haleigh Fernandez (Selma, Ind.) playing a traditional 18 against a pair of AU golfers. Fernandez' 89 and Smith's 90 led the quartet.
Coach Boone's squads are back in action Saturday and Sunday, April 29 and 30. The men compete in the first two rounds of the 2017 HCAC Championships at Aston Oaks Golf Club in North Bend, Ohio, and the women close their spring season at Transylvania University Saturday, April 29.
