Manchester University looks to rebound from a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference season-opening defeat when they travel to Defiance College Wednesday, Dec. 7.

Spartan Shorts: The guard combination of freshman Erik Bell (Evansville, Ind.) and sophomore Adrian Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) finds itself in the HCAC's statistical top five as of Dec. 3 games played. Bell features the league's second-best three-point field goal percentage (52.6), while Johnson is tied for fifth-best in steals (1.8 per game). Looking further, Johnson is just outside the top 10 in points (15.8 per game); freshman forward/center Chris Hill (Fort Wayne, Ind.)is in the same range in blocked shots (.6 per game); and senior guard Chase Casteel (Monrovia, Ind.) is ninth in rebounding (6 per game) … Coach Gerad Good's squad battled Hanover College tooth and nail in its conference opener Dec. 3 before falling 81-73. Senior guard Tyler Alexander (Indianapolis, Ind.) compiled his first double-double in a Manchester University uniform, as he and Johnson combined for 39 points. Alexander went eight-of-18 from the field and hit seven-of-11 from the free throw line in route to a 23-point afternoon inside Collier Arena. He also grabbed 11 rebounds and dished off two assists as part of an afternoon in which he held the team in each category. Johnson turned in 16 points and proved tough on the Panthers' offense with four steals … The Spartans (1-4 overall, 0-1 HCAC) return to Stauffer-Wolfe Arena Saturday, Dec. 10, welcoming preseason favorite and defending champion Mt. St. Joseph for a 3 p.m. start.
