Spartans open two-game homestand

The final week of the 2017-18 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference campaign starts Wednesday, Feb. 14, for Manchester University.

Game details: Game time is 7:30 p.m. at MU's Stauffer-Wolfe Arena … Live audio, statistics, and video are accessible at www.muspartans.com, the Internet home of Manchester University athletics … In recent series history, MU holds a 17-12 margin.

Spartan Shorts: Junior guard Adrian Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.), who's climbed into the program's all-time scoring top 10, enters the year's final week ranking second in the league in scoring (18.9 ppg) and sitting third in assists (4.3 pg). Other first 10 listings for MU on the loop statistics belong to senior forward/center Enis Becirevic (Fort Wayne, Ind.) (No. 10 – rebounding – 5 pg/No. 4 – field goal pct. – 59.7); and senior guard Brody Kirby (Frankfort, Ind.) and senior forward Kenny Doss, Jr., (Chicago, Ill.) who join Johnson in the steals category (Kirby – T-5th – 1.5 pg/Doss, Jr. – 7th – 1.3 pg/Johnson – T-10th – 1.3 pg) … Johnson added to a third successive season of 400-or-more points with 26 that led the way at Hanover College Feb. 10. He hit on 12 of 20 field goal attempts as one of two MU players in double digits. Freshman forward/center Cornell Hampton (Griffith, Ind.) tallied 10 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assists to aid the Black and Gold's 74-point total. While those two figures topped the stat sheet, it wasn't enough to get past a 50-point second half by the Panthers. HC overcame an eight-point deficit in the early stages of the second frame to claim the 86-74 decision. Manchester University hit better than 48 percent from the field overall and a blistering 52.9 percent from outside the arc to give their hosts all they could handle. Freshman guard Matt Westman (Michigantown, Ind.) was just off the double-figure pace with nine points, highlighted by a perfect three-of-three afternoon from three-point range. Fellow freshman guard Jalen Owens (Terre Haute, Ind.) had an impressive bench game with eight points.

Home Finale: Manchester University spotlights its Class of 2018 as part of a doubleheader against Rose-Hulman Saturday, Feb. 17.
