Three-match home stand opens Wednesday

Franklin College takes a northern trek to North Manchester Wednesday, Oct. 11.

Match details: Kickoff is 4 p.m. at Good Field … Live audio, stats and video are accessible at www.muspartans.com, the Internet home of Manchester University athletics … Manchester University stands 4-8 overall and 0-3 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, and FC sports a 1-10 overall and 0-3 conference mark … The Grizzlies have won six straight in the series.

Spartan Shorts: The Black and Gold seek to turn around recent fortunes which have seen them drop seven of their last eight and four in a row … Coach Corey Brueggeman's crew is no stranger to close-knit finishes with seven results winding up as one-score differences. MU has captured three of the decisions … The Spartan closed a two-match conference road swing with a hard-fought 2-0 loss to perennial power Rose-Hulman Oct. 7. Senior goalkeeper Brady Forman (Hastings, Mich.) kept a stout Fightin' Engineers offense at bay over a good share of the clash. Forman and counterpart Carter Wright battled to a scoreless draw at the Jim Rendel and Intramural Fields for better than 30 minutes before the home side worked its way through the Manchester University defense for a pair of goals from the 30th to 35th, taking a 2-0 lead into the break. The senior netminder was just as stellar in the second 45 minutes, not surrendering another Rose-Hulman score. Wright came under attack from an offense fraught with an urgency that had five shot on goal attempts in seven total tries. Unfortunately, he stepped to the forefront in each case, wrapping up a 90-minute clean sheet. Freshman forward Josh Gonzalez (Portage, Ind.) and junior midfielder Nate Johnson (Portage, Ind.) led the offense with four shot tries apiece … Gonzalez continues to carry the flag in goals (three), points (eight), total shots (31) and two game-winning strikes for the team. Senior defender/forward/midfielder Tod Oram (Crown Point, Ind.) is next in goals (two), while junior midfielder Ben Niederhelman (Ross, Ohio) is tied for points (four) and assists (two) with Gonzalez.

Homecoming Weekend 2017: Transylvania University visits Good Field for 1 (women) and 3:30 (men) p.m. match times Saturday, Oct. 14.
