WARSAW, IND. – A sweep of number three through six singles enabled Manchester University to sidestep Franklin College in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday, April 14.
The trio of freshman Isaac Miller (Goshen, Ind.) and seniors Kyler Love (North Webster, Ind.) and Garrett Bear (Indianapolis, Ind.) reeled off straight-set victories at the Warsaw Tennis and Fitness Club for interim coach Dr. Wendy Hoffman's side. Senior Spencer Thomas (Yorktown, Ind.) managed to clinch a nip-and-tuck 6-3 team win that moved the Spartans to 2-6 overall and 2-2 in the conference with a frenetic 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 triumph over the Grizzlies' Jake Zackery.
MU added two of three doubles victories to the nearly five-hour thriller finale. Junior Connor Eichenauer (North Manchester, Ind.) and Miller claimed an 8-3 victory at number two, and the number three pairing of Bear and Love captured their third straight decision to move to 5-2 on the year with a similar final.
The Spartans continue five in a row at home Wednesday, April 18, as Mt. St. Joseph University comes to North Manchester. Dual time is 4 p.m.
