ANDERSON, IND. – Senior distance runner Alex Gudeman (Rochester, Ind.) was an event champion for a second successive meet, and sophomore jumps specialist Alex Sanders (Kouts, Ind.) claimed his first collegiate meet pole vault victory to lead Manchester University Saturday, Feb. 4.
Gudeman, a week removed from a 3000 meter win at Trine University's Keith Turner Alumni Invitational, clocked a 15:38.43 in the 5000 at AU's Kardatzke Wellness Center to defeat the field by almost 24 seconds. Sanders, battling freshman teammate Paul Dieringer (Mishawaka, Ind.) during the afternoon for top honors, cleared 3.65 meters for a personal career indoor best.
Coach Brian Cashdollar's crew tallied 64 points among a multi-division field for fifth place. Senior thrower Drew Foster (Seymour, Ind.) was nipped by two-hundredths of a meter for first in the 20-pound weight throw (14.22-14.20) for a runner-up mark.
MU wraps up its pre-2017 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship tune-ups Friday, Feb. 10, competing in the Defiance College Open.
