Main View Tip-Off begins 2017-18 season

NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Four teams take the Stan Weller Court honoring Coaches Hoffman and Wolfe Friday and Saturday, Nov. 17 and 18, during the 2017 Manchester University Main View Tip-Off.

Tournament details: Game times are 5 (Otterbein University vs. University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh) and 7 p.m. Friday and 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena on MU's campus … Admission is $5 for adults. Students and senior citizens are admitted free of charge … Live audio, statistics and video for all contests can be accessed via links at, the Internet home of Manchester University athletics.

Spartan Shorts: Coach Josh Dzurick's squad takes the floor at 7 p.m. Friday against North Coast Athletic Conference foe Ohio Wesleyan University following Otterbein University and No. 11-ranked University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh's 5 p.m. tilt … The Spartans were picked in a tie for sixth on the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference preseason coaches poll, released late last month. Junior guard Faith-Alexis Graham (Indianapolis, Ind.), who finished 2016-17 ranked among the team top five in scoring, rebounding, three-point field goal percentage, assists, and steals, was named to the Players to Watch section. "It's a hard-working group," Dzurick said. "The returners are intelligent and involved on campus, so they serve as good leaders for the new faces (on the team). So far, through practice, it's been a lot of fun … (the players) Dive on the floor during drills as an example. We're excited about veterans in key areas. It'll be good to draw on that experience. We want to use this tournament to get better each day. It'll be about finding something to focus on, improve on it and move forward. This weekend starts a tough non-conference schedule. We will just hope to get better each week." Beyond Graham's presence, the Black and Gold offer junior forward/center Beth Schaefer (Fort Wayne, Ind.) who is the top returning scorer and rebounder from a year ago where she averaged better than seven points and almost six rebounds a game and the sophomore guard duo of Haley Farris (Sharpsville, Ind.) and Nicole Weaver (Fort Wayne, Ind.) who turned in critical efforts throughout their freshmen campaigns … Recent history has been steady for the Black and Gold in their tournament. They reached the finals in 2013, 2014 and 2015 and claimed the championship in 2015.

Eastern Trip: The Spartans close out their pre-Thanksgiving holiday schedule Wednesday, Nov. 22, with a visit to Ohio Athletic Conference member Muskingum College. Tip-off time is 3 p.m.
