Powers, Smith lead way at weather-shortened Hanover tourney

SEYMOUR, IND. – Battling through strong winds and rain as part of a two-day stay in southeastern Indiana Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 10 and 11, Manchester University produced a top six team finish.

Junior Katie Smith (Wabash, Ind.) compiled the low scorecard for a second successive weekend, firing an 87 at Shadowood Golf Course to end in a tie for 16th. Fellow junior Kaitlin Powers (Indianapolis, Ind.) was also in the top 20, placing in a tie for 19th with an 89.

The Black and Gold wound up at 377 to sit sixth in the eight-team field. Friday's first 18 holes where closed out at nine at Madison, Ind.'s Sunrise Golf Club due to the elements. St. Mary's College of Indiana was the tourney champ (320) followed by the host Panthers (333).

MU is back in action Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 17 and 18, at Rose-Hulman.
