LEXINGTON, KY. – The junior duo of Kaitlin Powers (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Katie Smith (Wabash, Ind.) both turned in top 15 individual marks Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 24 and 25, leading Manchester University at the Transylvania Invitational.

Both of Coach Tara Boone's upperclasswomen cropped strokes off their first to second rounds at Keene Run Golf Club. Powers, tying for 13th, went 87-85 for a 36-hole 172, while Smith, winding up just outside the top 10 in a tie for 11th, turned in 18s of 87-83 to end up at 170. Sophomores Haleigh Fernandez (Selma, Ind.) (90-90- 180 – 22nd) and Emily Milburn (Lebanon, Ind.) (91-100 – 191 – 31st) rounded out the Spartans' marks.

On the team leaderboard, after trailing Spalding University of Kentucky by one stroke for fourth place at the end of Saturday's first round, MU overtook them on Sunday to wind up fourth (714). Hanover College claimed top honors, holding off Pikeville University by four strokes (666-670).

The Spartans wrap up their pre-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships' slate Sunday, Oct. 2. They're part of the field for Earlham College's invitational.
