NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Fueled by seven successive victories to open an in-state NCAA Division III clash, Manchester University reached the five-dual win mark for a second consecutive season Tuesday, Feb. 6.
The Spartans' 34-9 shellacking of Trine University gave a large crowd paying respects to an eight-man Class of 2018 before dual start plenty to smile about. Four of the individuals winding down their home collegiate campaigns were at the forefront, too. The quartet featured 141-pounder Chase Wilson (Peru, Ind.) reeling off a technical fall for his 25th triumph of the year; 165-pounder Alex Arney (Fort Wayne, Ind.) securing a second period takedown in route to a decision; 174-pounder Tristan Wilson, also of Fort Wayne, Ind., moving a win shy of double figures with a close-knit decision; and heavyweight Nick Joyner (Bedford, Ind.) catching his opponent in the first minute and registering a 42-second fall to close out the victory.
Coach Kevin Lake's squad, improving to 5-8 with a fifth straight win in the series against the Thunder, resumes a set of four consecutive home events Saturday, Feb. 10. They host the 2018 MidStates Championships with competition getting underway at 9 a.m. at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena.
