Upperclasswoman quartet to lead squad

Head coach Christine Johnson and her staff recently selected their 2017 captains. Honors went to seniors Jenny Pudlo (Crown Point, Ind.)Maggie Carpenter (Connersville, Ind.) and and Courtney Hersick (Plymouth, Ind.) along with junior Maranda Birmingham (Kouts, Ind.).

Each of them carries an impressive resume. Pudlo has made herself a fixture in the center/mid area for the Black and Gold, appearing in 47 matches with 31 starts. Carpenter has emerged into one of the team leaders defensively, playing in10-or-more contests as a sophomore and junior which included starting all 14 appearances in 2016. Birmingham, who earned second team all-league awards last fall, has developed into one of the HCAC's top scorers, tallying 15 goals and 32 points in only two campaigns, and Hersick, a returning first team all-conference selection, joins her to make a formidable one-two punch for the Black and Gold offense, compiling 11 goals, three assists and 25 points in her junior year alone.

The annual alumni match gives fans a sneak peek at the squad Saturday, Aug. 26, at Good Field. Manchester University's season opener is Friday, Sept. 1, at Trine, while their home opener follows soon thereafter on Sunday, Sept. 3, versus St. Mary's College.
