CRAWFORDSVILLE, IND. – A quartet featuring sophomore Annie Barce (Fowler, Ind.), freshman Tiffany Reith (Goshen, Ind.), junior Hannah Interlicchia (Porter Ranch, Calif.) and sophomore Mikki Goetz (Highland, Ind.) registered the top performance for Manchester University at the Indiana Division III Championships Saturday, Oct. 15.
Clocking a 1:59.68 in the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team touched the line in sixth place, defeating Franklin College's B crew and the top squad from Anderson University in the process. Other top 10 marks for Coach Mike Kroll's crew in its 2016-17 opener at Wabash College's Class of 1950 Natatorium included Goetz, Interlicchia and Reith joining junior Emily Clark (Peru, Ind.) to take 10th in the 200-yard women's medley event; Barce registering a 65.64-second effort in the 100-yard freestyle which placed her 10th; and Barce, Clark, Interlicchia, and Reith swimming to a ninth-place finish in the women's 400-yard freestyle race.
The Spartans wound up sixth in the team race with 120 points. MU's men were led to an 84-point, fifth-place effort by an 11th-place finish in the 200-yard medley (Nate Koch, so., Columbia City; Triston Mahoney, fr., Titusville, Fla.; Guerby Ruuska, so., Rensselaer, Ind.; and Anjel Clemente, so., Rensselaer, Ind.).
The Black and Gold return to action Saturday, Oct. 22, joining the field at the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships, hosted by Purdue University at its Boilermaker Aquatic Center in West Lafayette, Ind.
