Senior Day festivities highlight tri-meet

Franklin College and Indiana Wesleyan University are guests of Manchester University for tri-meet action Saturday, Nov. 11.

Meet details: Action begins at 1 p.m. at the Strauss-Peabody Aquatic Center located west of Manchester University's campus … Five women's team individuals (Emily Clark, Peru, Ind.; Laura Dickey, Goshen, Ind.; Megan Erwin, Attica, Ind.; Annika Harley, Madison, Wis.; and Ally Roskos, Elkhart, Ind.) are recognized during the afternoon in their final home competition. "This is (the first senior class to go through the program)," Coach Mike Kroll noted. "It's neat to see that we had three freshmen (in 2014), and they're still with us. They've bought in and set the standard … that goes to not just performance but culture-wise."

Spartan Shorts: MU opened its brief home slate with a pair of school records and event victories against Ohio Athletic Conference member Baldwin-Wallace University Nov. 4. On the men's side, sophomore sprinter Christain Poole (Anderson, Ind.) won the 50-yard freestyle, nipping BW's John Beyer at the pad by seventh-tenths of a second (22.7-23.4), and junior diver Angel Clemente (Rensselaer, Ind.) got his season off a flying start, sweeping the five-dive, six dive and 11-dive overall competitions with scores of 174.65, 236.7 and 411.35. While the women's squad didn't pick up an event victory, they did add to their early-season record-breaking theme, as the 200-yard medley relay swam to a 2:04.21 behind the quartet of Clark, junior Jamie McBride (Elkhart, Ind.) and freshmen Katie Blystone (Carmel, Ind.) and Bailey Conder (Greenwood, Ind.) and Shelby Kell (Charlottesville, Ind.), also a freshman, put a new standard up in the 50-yard freestyle during her section of the 200-yard freestyle relay with a 27.29 clocking … Kroll noted Saturday's meet set up would favor shorter sprints and some more extended distance events. "We need to focus on this with the (Ohio Wesleyan University) Corbiere-Merion (Invitational) coming up which sort of serves as the big meet for the first half of the season," he said. "The sprinters will get more chances at the shorter races, while the distance athletes will be able to compete in the mile which is kind of their bread and butter with the training they've been putting in."

Two-Day Buckeye State Visit: Manchester University's men's and women's squads are among the fields for OWU's Corbiere-Merion Invitational at Delaware, Ohio, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 18 and 19.
