Box Score KENOSHA, WIS. – Senior center Alyssa Hammond (Osgood, Ind.) topped the Manchester University scoring category, highlighting their semifinal round match-up at the Carthage College of Wisconsin tournament Monday, Dec. 29.
The team's leading scorer tossed in nine points on three-of-five field goal and free throw shooting to go along with a blocked shot and steal. Junior guard Justine Kruger (Francesville, Ind.) added six points and three rebounds, while freshman forward Samantha Bolen (Greenwood, Ind.) grabbed four boards for the Spartans (3-6). D3Hoops.com top 10-ranked St. Thomas University of Minnesota managed to break away from a hard-nosed MU effort in the opening 20 minutes with a key 23-9 run en route to a 73-41 decision.
The loss dropped Manchester University into the consolation championship against in-state non-conference foe St. Mary's who was felled by the host Lady Reds 86-42 in the other semifinal. MU faces off with the Belles of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association at 3 p.m. Eastern Standard Time Tuesday, Dec. 30.
NOTES: Bolen's rebound total marked the fourth time she's collected four-or-more in a game and pushed her per-game average to three for the second time … The unbeaten Tommies showed strong scoring balance with 12 of 15 individuals who saw court time getting into the scoring column. It was due in large part to a 54.5 field goal percentage, too.
