DELAWARE, Ohio – Manchester University was unable to stop regional-foe Ohio Northern in women's basketball action on Sunday December 29. The Polar Bears topped the Spartans by a final score of 76-47 in the second game of the Hoops for Hope Classic at Ohio Wesleyan.
Manchester and Ohio Northern traded early leads in the opening period of the ballgame. Neither team led by more than a possession and MU trailed by just a bucket, 16-14, following the first 10 minutes of play.
Manchester was able to stay close to the Polar Bears in the early going of the first half due in large part to the hot shooting of freshman Hannah Lindsey (Speedway, Ind./Speedway). Lindsey led all scorers at the break with 15 points on the strength of 5-of-7 shooting from three-point territory. Lindsey would finish with a team-high 17 points.
ONU utilized a 16-3 run late in the second quarter to grab a 36-20 lead at halftime.
The Polar Bears used stifling defense to increase their lead over the Spartans in the second half. ONU held Manchester to 34.2% (13-38) shooting for the game. Ohio Northern also dominated the glass on Sunday, outrebounding MU 52-26.
Ohio Northern improved to 7-2 on the season. MU slid to 4-5 on the year. The Spartans will conclude play in the Hoops for Hope Classic tomorrow afternoon against Heidelberg. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
