Gratz Field
Situated in the northeast corner of campus, Gratz Field is home to the Manchester University baseball program. The outfield borders the University’s astronomy studies area, as well as old Carl W. Burt Memorial Field. The field features a scoreboard just beyond the left field fence that is dedicated to the memory of Bob and Virginia Frick, and the “Black Monster” in right field which is the backside of the Carl W. Burt Memorial Field grandstands and press box.
In 2020, a new backstop and new mesh netting behind home plate were installed. The Spartan dugout also received a makeover in 2021, with new paint and new signage installed.
Gratz Field is named after James “Jim” Gratz, long-time athletic director and head baseball coach at Manchester. Gratz is the program’s second all-time winningest coach, winning 241 games during his 24-year coaching career from 1963-1985.
