CARMEL, Ind. - Three Spartans earned Heartland Collegiate Atheltic Conference (HCAC) Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors, the league announced on Tuesday, April 11.
HCAC 2023 Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Notebook, Week 3
Enrique Salazar (Plymouth, Ind., Plymouth) was named HCAC Male Track Athlete of the Week. Salazar posted a conference leading mark in the 1500m run at the Manchester Invitational on Saturday, finishing the race in third place in a time of 3:56.54.
Ben Villafuerte (Angola, Ind., Angola) earned HCAC Male Field Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this outdoor season on Tuesday. Villafuerte competed at the Manchester Invitational where he took home 2nd place in the shot put with a mark of 15.78m. Villafuerte's mark puts him second best all-time in Manchester school history and led the conference by .65m.
Manchester University sophomore Carley Camp (Logansport, Ind., Logansport) garnered HCAC Female Field Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this outdoor season. Camp scored 28 of possible 30 points over three events at the Manchester Invitational on Saturday. She took home 1st place in the shot put with a mark of 13.01m and the discus with a personal record mark of 38.49m. Camp's shot put mark currently ranks 22nd in all of Division III this outdoor season. She also took home 2nd place in the hammer throw with season best and conference leading mark of 44.43m.
The Manchester outdoor track and field teams will travel to DePauw on Saturday, April 15 to compete in the Indiania D3 Championships. Event time is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
