Spartan Women Take Second at Manchester Invitational, Senior Class Honored on Saturday

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Manchester University men's and women's track and field teams hosted the Manchester Invitational on Saturday, April 8. 

The Spartans welcomed competing athletes from Ohio Northern University, Franklin College, Bluffton University, and Grace Christian University. 

The Manchester women took second place out of the five-team field with an overall team score of 131 points. Ohio Northern took first at Saturday's invitational with an overall team score of 363 points. Franklin took third with 62 team points, Bluffton finished in fourth with 57 team points, while Grace Christian rounded out the five-team field with 27 team points. 

Prior to the start of Saturday's meet, Manchester honored its senior class with a small, on-field ceremony.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES & PODIUM FINISHES
  • Carley Camp (Logansport, Ind., Logansport) won women's discus with a heave of 38.49m. She also took first in the shot put, finishing the day with a mark of 13.01m. Camp also competed in the hammer throw, finishing with a mark of 44.43m, good enough for second place at Saturday's invitational.
  • First-year Ally Graber (Mooresville, Ind., Mooresville) took fifth in women's shot put with a distance of 11.16m while Korynn Kinnaird (Delphi, Ind., Delphi Community) took sixth place with a distance of 10.41m. 
  • In the women's javelin, Madysen Rees (Middletown, Ind., Liberty Christian) threw a distance of 29.16m, good enough for fourth place.
  • Adelle Stanko (Okemos, Mich., Okemos) competed in the women's triple jump, taking third place with a distance of 10.38m. 
  • Manchester snagged second and third place in the women's 3000m steeplechase. First-year Sydney Sluys (Columbus, Ind., Columbus North) finished in second with a time of 13:18.53. Fellow first-year Rylee Stephany (LaPorte, Ind., LaPorte) took third, crossing the finish line in a time of 13:32.10.
  • The 4x400m relay team consisting of Penelope Eash, Adelle Stanko, Rylee Stephany, and Brooke Bouwens took third in a time of 4:30.76.
  • Madison Hilliker (Muskegon, Mich., Reeths-Puffer) finished in second place in the 5000m run with a time of 20:40.96.
  • Brooke Bouwens (Lake Odessa, Mich., Lakewood) finished 100m hurdles in a time of 16.83, good enough for third place and a new Manchester top-10 mark. Bouwens also took third in the 400m hurdles, crossing the finish line in a time of 1:08.27.
  • Hannah Brubaker (Goshen, Ind., NorthWood) won the women's 1500m run, crossing the finish line in a time of  5:03.64. Brubaker also took first in the 5000m run on Saturday. 
  • Manchester took second in the 4x100 relay. The team consisting of Adelle Stanko, Penelope Eash, Jay'ana Blakely, and Brooke Bouwens finished in a time of 51.92 seconds.

  • The Spartans are slated to compete at the Indiana D3 Championships hosted at DePauw University on Saturday April 15.
