CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. - The Manchester men's tennis team opened their spring season with two non-conference matches against Capital University and Wabash College on Saturday, February 10.
The Spartans came away with a 5-4 victory over Comets before suffering an 8-1 loss to the Little Giants.
MANCHESTER 5, CAPITAL 4
The no. 2 doubles team of
Anthony Bau (North Judson, Ind., North Judson - San Pierre) and
Andrew Schrier (Avon, Ind., Danville) defeated the Comets duo of Jackson Havel and Nicholas Wines by a final score of 8-5. Manchester won the no. 3 position by default.
In singles play,
Blake Schroeder (Pierceton, Ind., Whitko) took the no. 4 match with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Alex Rowley.
Henry Blakley (Zionsville, Ind., Zionsville) dominated at no.5 singles, taking the match by final scores of 6-1, 6-0.
WABASH 8, MANCHESTER 1
Blakley continued his success against Wabash. The first-year battled at the no.5 singles position, taking the match 6-2, 3-6, 11-9 for his second singles win of the day.
Schrier also took his singles match to three sets before suffering a narrow defeat to Eli Arnold with a score of 2-6, 6-4, 5-10.
Up next, both the Manchester men's and women's tennis teams will travel to the University of Olivet for another non-conference matchup on Saturday, February 24.
