Manchester took the final three sets after dropping the opener and hit .250 or better in each of those three sets.

Manchester repeatedly answered small deficits in the middle of the match. In set 2, Manchester moved from a 10-8 deficit to a 13-11 lead, then later turned a 20-19 Rose-Hulman edge into a 24-21 Manchester advantage before converting set point at 26-24. Early in set 4, Manchester won seven of eight rallies to move from a 1-1 score to an 8-2 lead, with a four-point service run included in that stretch.

Manchester rallied from a 17-12 deficit to pull even at 21-21, but Rose-Hulman scored four of the final five points to take the opening set 25-22. Earlier, Manchester started with a kill by Simmons from Howard and later moved in front 5-3 behind points from Delaeni Hixson and Kyana Martinez. Rose-Hulman answered with six straight points to put Manchester behind 9-5, and Manchester continued to work back with kills from Lichtenbarger, Simmons and Izzy Renz. Lichtenbarger finished the set with five kills, including one during Tiffany Watterson's service turn that helped Manchester close within 17-16, before the set was tied at 21-21 on a Rose-Hulman attack error.

Manchester closed the second set with back-to-back points after Rose-Hulman tied it at 24-24, getting a block from Howard and Lichtenbarger and a Keira Meierant service ace to finish a 26-24 win. Earlier, Manchester answered an 8-10 deficit by winning five of the next six points, with Watterson serving an ace and Lichtenbarger, Martinez and Howard adding kills in the stretch. Rose-Hulman responded from 13-11 to move ahead 15-13, but Lichtenbarger's kill and Meierant's ace helped Manchester pull even at 15-15. The set stayed tight from there until Watterson added another ace and Renz followed with a kill for a 22-20 Manchester lead, and later kills from Lichtenbarger and Renz moved Manchester to 24-21 before the final Rose-Hulman push.

Manchester turned a 7-5 deficit into control of the third set, using a block by Martinez and kills from Martinez and Renz to move ahead 9-7. Watterson added a service ace to make it 11-8, and Manchester later built the margin with a Lichtenbarger kill, a shared block by Simmons and Lichtenbarger, and a Meierant ace for a 16-11 lead. After Rose-Hulman cut the gap to 18-15, Manchester answered with steady side-out points, including kills by Martinez, Renz and Lichtenbarger. Lichtenbarger added another late kill for set point before Howard finished the 25-20 set win.

Manchester took control of the fourth set after dropping the first point, using Alena Naddaf's serve to win four straight rallies for a 5-1 lead and extending the early surge to seven of eight points at 8-2. Lichtenbarger and Renz had early kills off Howard assists, Naddaf added back-to-back aces, and Meierant followed with an ace during another four-point Manchester burst that pushed the score to 10-2. Manchester built the lead to 15-4 behind kills from Simmons and Martinez and a Howard service ace, then responded to Rose-Hulman's three-point answer when Simmons put down a kill from Watterson at 16-7. Up next, Manchester hosts Anderson University (IN) on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Manchester (1-7) lost to Rose-Hulman (6-2) 52-14 on Saturday. Manchester finished with seven first downs and 24 rushing yards while Rose-Hulman totaled 571 yards of offense.

Rose-Hulman built the game's early separation before Manchester broke through late in the second quarter, when an interception takeaway was part of a sequence that moved the score from 24-0 to 24-7. Manchester added a downfield answer early in the fourth quarter, with Frankie Cherry's 52-yard touchdown pass to Levi Campbell finishing a five-play drive and bringing Manchester from 45-7 to 45-14. Around those scoring moments, Manchester produced several stops on extended Rose-Hulman possessions, turning away fourth-down attempts at the Manchester 43, 8 and 25 and keeping Rose-Hulman out of the end zone on drives that ended on downs.

Rose-Hulman generated 571 yards on 100 plays, with 382 passing yards, 189 rushing yards and 29 first downs, while holding the ball for 38:14. Manchester completed 17 of 31 passes for 151 yards but was held to 24 rushing yards, went 4-for-16 on third down and punted eight times. Campbell finished with five catches for 93 yards and a touchdown, while Cherry threw for 151 yards and a score. Defensively, Manchester recorded two interceptions and a fumble recovery, with Canden Peruski and De'Marreia Stephens each finishing with 10 tackles.

Manchester spent the first quarter under pressure as Rose-Hulman scored on all four of its red-zone trips, while Manchester finished the quarter with 16 yards, no first downs and an 0-for-4 mark on third down. Myles Holland returned the opening kickoff 13 yards before Manchester's first series ended with Angel Estrada's 51-yard punt, and the defense limited the ensuing Rose-Hulman possession to Cohen Peters' 35-yard field goal at 10:35. Talen Garner added a 4-yard tackle for loss, and Shane Hagen and Bryson Frazer each broke up passes, but Rose-Hulman followed with two rushing touchdowns, including one after Cameron Puryear's fumble gave the home team the ball at the Manchester 27. Holland's 24-yard return later gave Manchester its best starting field position of the quarter, and Frankie Cherry completed a 5-yard pass to Thayden Welch on the next drive, but the possession stalled before Rose-Hulman added a late touchdown pass to leave Manchester behind 24-0 after the first quarter.

Troy Odle intercepted a third-down pass at the Rose-Hulman 19 and returned it 5 yards, and Manchester turned the takeaway into a 3-yard Rashawn Williams touchdown before Angel Estrada's extra point made it 24-7 with 2:25 left in the second quarter. Earlier, Manchester created another short-field chance when Estrada's punt was muffed and Rashawn Williams recovered at the Rose-Hulman 31, but that possession ended on a fumble after JD Hilton reached the red zone. Manchester's defense later stopped Rose-Hulman on fourth-and-6 at the Manchester 43, and the offense responded with a drive highlighted by Frankie Cherry's 27-yard completion to Levarian Campbell before an interception at the goal line ended the threat. Rose-Hulman answered Manchester's touchdown with a 46-yard scoring pass and extra point to make it 31-7, and Talen Garner's late sack helped keep the final Rose-Hulman possession out of the end zone as the second quarter closed with that score.

Manchester's defense produced its key stop of the third quarter at the Manchester 8, where Rose-Hulman's fourth-down pass fell incomplete after Peruski and Hagen had combined on a tackle for loss earlier in the red-zone series. Earlier, Rose-Hulman opened the quarter with a 13-play, 60-yard touchdown drive, and Manchester's first possession was pushed back by a delay-of-game penalty and a sack before Angel Estrada punted. After the turnover on downs gave Manchester the ball at its own 8, the Spartans gained 9 yards before a blocked punt and an unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty set up Rose-Hulman at the Manchester 12, leading to a one-play touchdown drive. Manchester answered by starting a late possession at its own 35, with Cherry completing three passes and Hilton moving the chains on a 5-yard run, but the quarter ended with Rose-Hulman ahead 45-7.

Manchester opened the fourth quarter with Frankie Cherry's 52-yard touchdown pass to Levi Campbell over the middle at 14:52, and Angel Estrada's point-after made it 45-14. Rose-Hulman answered with a long drive, but De'Marreia Stephens intercepted the Fightin' Engineers at the Manchester 1 with 8:57 left, leaving the visitors to start deep in their own end. After a Manchester punt, the defense faced a short field at the Manchester 15 and held Rose-Hulman without points, with Kameron Landrum stopping a run for no gain, Garner hurrying a third-down incompletion and a fourth-and-20 pass falling incomplete. Manchester moved back into Rose-Hulman territory on its next possession behind a pass-interference penalty and completions from Cherry to Ethan Skinner and Campbell before Lake Musall's fumble ended the drive. Rose-Hulman added a late touchdown, and Manchester's final possession reached the Rose-Hulman 36 before time expired in a 52-14 final.

Levi Campbell caught five passes for 93 yards and a touchdown. Cherry threw for 151 yards and a touchdown. Stephens recorded 10 tackles and an interception. Rashawn Williams rushed for 23 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries and added a fumble recovery.

Manchester moves to 1-7 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
