Matt Andrews will enter his third year as an assistant cross country and track & field coach at Manchester in 2022-23.
During his second year with the programs, the Spartans won a combined five Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championships. Andrews helped guide the Manchester men to indoor and outdoor track & field titles and the women to an "HCAC Triple Crown" - winning titles in cross country, and indoor and outdoor track & field.
During cross country season, the Spartans produced the HCAC Individual Champion on both the men's (Thomas Richardson) and women's sides (Elizabeth Lohman). Fifth-year Elizabeth Lohman would go on to qualify for the 2021 NCAA Division III National Championships where she placed 145th nationally. During the track & field circuit, Manchester swept the HCAC Indoor & Outdoor Men's & Women's Distance Athlete of the Year Awards (Enrique Salazar & Elizabeth Lohman winning both). Junior Enrique Salazar would go on to qualify in the 10,000m for the 2022 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships where he placed 13th nationally. Salazar would establish six new school records in track under Andrews' tutelage.Â
In his first year at Manchester, the Spartans placed in the top three in both genders at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships, Indoor Track & Field Championships, and Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Andrews helped guide the men's cross country program to a runner-up finish in 2021. The Spartan men had the top 3 overall finishers at the conference championships in Enrique Salazar (HCAC MVP), Connor Havens (HCAC Newcomer of the Year) and Thomas Richardson. The last time a team placed 1-2-3 at the HCAC Championships was 2009 when the Manchester Spartans placed 1-2-3-4. The last time a non-Manchester team placed 1-2-3 at the conference meet was back in 2005 when the feat was accomplished by Anderson. Coach Andrews helped the Manchester women's cross country team place third at this year's championships after a trio of Spartans earned top 10 placements.Â
Both Manchester cross country teams earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors while Enrique Salazar and Thomas Richardson were honored as USTFCCCA All-Academic Athletes.
Both the Manchester men & women placed second at the HCAC Indoor and Outdoor Track Championships. Enrique Salazar was named the 2021 HCAC Men's Indoor Track MVP en route to claiming 4 total HCAC titles. Additionally, Kelsey Tyler was named the 2021 HCAC Women's Indoor Track MVP after winning a pair of HCAC titles at the indoor championships. Thomas Richardson would go on to earn USTFCCCA All-Region recognition in the 3000m steeplechase during the outdoor campaign. During the indoor and outdoor circuits, Coach Andrews helped numerous distance competitors shatter PRs and climb up the Manchester all-time top 10 listings.Â
Prior to arriving in North Manchester, Andrews spent two years as the Graduate Assistant Coach for Cross Country and Track & Field at DeSales University in Center Valley, Pa. Matt helped the Bulldogs to three top 5 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) finishes. Andrews had a helping hand in guiding the men’s indoor track & field team to is highest finish at the MAC Championships in nine years in 2020. Additionally, Andrews helped coached DeSales’ first national qualifier in 13 years in junior Matthew Kraus.
