MU splits home triangular

The Black and Gold, improving to 10-12, toppled Franklin College in four sets to begin the day. Freshman outside hitter Sarah Pruden (Noblesville, Ind.) had a strong outing against the Grizzlies with 19 kills and a .306 attack percentage to go along with 13 digs. Fellow freshman outside/middle hitter Kelsie Thomas (Wabash, Ind.) added 11 kills and 10 digs, while junior outside hitter Kelsie Fieler (Cincinnati, Ohio) added 11 kills. Senior right side/outside hitter Jordan Redding (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and freshman setter Mikayla Munn (Elkhart, Ind.) each sent three service aces at the Grizzlies' defense, and Munn had 43 assists.

Coach Kendra Marlowe's team narrowly missed a sweep of the day's matches, falling 15-11 in the fifth set to St. Mary's. The trio of Pruden, Thomas and Fieler led the way, with Pruden hammering 17 kills and Thomas and Fieler each contributing 12. Thomas was also tough from the back line, delivering five service aces, and Fieler added two solo blocks.

MU continues its current homestand Sunday, Oct. 7, when Rose-Hulman visits Stauffer-Wolfe Arena for a 2 p.m. start. The match is part of the program's Alumni Day festivities with an alumni match following the Spartans' battle with the Engineers.
