McClintic took a 6-3 first set decision and battled past Hanover's Alexis Taylor 7-6 in the second set with a tiebreaker to win at number three. Heeter chased Shelby Williamson in straight sets to win at number four. Hanover used wins at one, two, five and six to spark a close-knit 5-4 victory, though.

In doubles play, McClintic and Heeter teamed up for a win at number two. Coach Eric Christiansen's top squad of juniors Kara Gilley (Plymouth, Ind.) and Brandy Leeper (Bremen, Ind.) were also victorious to start the Spartans out to a 2-1 dual lead.

Manchester opens a busy three-dual week Monday, Sept. 10, when Adrian College of Michigan visits the college's outdoor courts for a 3 p.m. start. MU's men also kick off their brief fall slate against the Bulldogs.
