Box Score 2 NORTH MANCHESTER, IND, - Sophomore outside hitter Courtney Chowning (Yorktown, Ind.) guided Manchester University's offense Saturday, Oct. 11.
Chowning pounded 31 kills at the defenses of Mt. St. Joseph University of Ohio and Alma College of Michigan in front of a Homecoming Weekend 2014 crowd at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena. She was also the individual leader in attack percentage (.246) and digs (25). Other strong numbers for MU (4-18, 0-4 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) came from junior outside hitter Sarah Pruden (Noblesville, Ind.) (23 kills); junior middle hitter Morgan Pavelka (Noblesville, Ind.) (seven service aces); and junior middle hitter Devin Clark (Madison, Ind.) (10 blocks).
Manchester University gave fellow HCAC member MSJ all it could handle in its opening match, falling in five sets. They followed that up with a hard-fought four-set loss to an Alma crew that had taken a set from top-ranked American Volleyball Coaches Association Hope College earlier in the week.
The Black and Gold continue a current three-match home stand Wednesday, Oct. 15. Defiance College of Ohio visits North Manchester for a 7 p.m. first serve.
