TERRE HAUTE, IND. – Sophomore Adriana Brown (Columbia City, Ind.) picked up a win at No. 6 singles, guiding Manchester University against Rose-Hulman in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action Sunday, Oct. 12.
Brown toppled the Fightin' Engineers Paige Bateman 8-1 for the Spartans' lone team point. MU (4-7 overall, 3-5 HCAC) just missed adding to their total, as freshman Katie Peden (North Manchester, Ind.) took Kylie McCollum to a superbreaker at No. 3 singles, while freshman Erin Cordill (Zionsville, Ind.), and junior Megan Buckner (Muncie, Ind.) each picked up five-plus game wins in a set of their matches at No. 1 and No. 4, respectively.
MU continues its fall season Saturday, Oct. 18, by competing in the 2014 HCAC Championships. The tournament's sixth seed faces third-seeded Franklin College at 9 a.m. at West Indy Racquet Club in Indianapolis, Ind.
NOTES: Cordill stands as the Black and Gold singles' win leader (seven) going into the tournament, while Brown, with a modest two-match win skein, is second (five) … Freshman Katy Ashpole (Leesburg, Ind.), Cordill and Buckner all share the doubles' victory chart top spot (five apiece).
