LEXINGTON, KY. – Manchester University split the singles' competition, while host Transylvania University of Kentucky managed two of three wins in doubles' play, holding off a strong charge from the Spartans Saturday, Oct. 4.

MU (3-5, 2-3 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) received singles' victories from freshmen Katie Peden (North Manchester, Ind.) and Alisha Paddock (Alexandria, Ind.) and sophomore Alaina Beckner (Columbia City, Ind.) to forge the split. TU (3-3, 3-3 HCAC) overcame their guests in number one and two doubles before the tandem of Beckner and Paddock came back for an 8-6 final at number three.

Coach Eric Christiansen's team nearly overturned the 5-4 score in its direction. Junior Megan Buckner (Muncie, Ind.) rallied from a first-set loss to the Pioneers' Mary Grace Amato with a 6-4 second-set victory at number four singles. However, Amato clinched the final outcome, slipping past Buckner 7-6 in the superbreaker.

MU continues conference action Wednesday, Oct 8, traveling to Anderson University for a 4 p.m. first serve.
