NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Freshman Erin Cordill wrapped up a big week in a Manchester University uniform Saturday, Sept. 20.
After a pair of straight-set victories over opponents from Defiance College of Ohio and the University of St. Francis of Fort Wayne, Ind., Sept. 17 and 18, the Spartans' number one singles player, a freshman from Zionsville, Ind., knocked off reigning Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year Melissa Sanders at the MU outdoor courts to spotlight an 8-1 loss to Franklin College. After falling 6-3 in the opening set, Cordill rebounded with a 7-5 win in the second set and put away the comeback with a 6-2 third set decision. It was her fourth successive win, improving her record to 4-1.
Cordill's win was the lone point for the Spartans (3-2, 2-1 HCAC) against Franklin (3-1 overall, 3-0 HCAC). The visiting Grizzlies swept through doubles' action and then put away the dual win with singles' tallies from number two through six.
The Black and Gold resume the fall slate Tuesday, Sept. 23, when Adrian College of Michigan visits for a non-conference men's and women's double dual. First serve at Manchester University's outdoor courts is 3:30 p.m.
