MU splits Oberlin visit

OBERLIN, IND. – A solid .248 team attack percentage helped lift Manchester University to its fourth win in its last seven matches Saturday, Sept. 20.

With reigning Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference offensive Player of the Week Morgan Pavelka resuming her recent hot stretch (10 kills, two errors, 23 attempts, .348 attack percentage, two service aces, and two block assists), the Spartans topped the host Oberlin Yeowomen in four sets inside OC's Main Gym. MU's outside hitter combination of junior Sarah Pruden (Noblesville, Ind.) and sophomore Courtney Chowning (Yorktown, Ind.) added a combined 30 kills against the host's defense en route to a 25-18, 22-25, 26-24, 25-19 victory.

The Spartans' day opened with a three-set loss to American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III No. 22-ranked DePauw University of Greencastle, Ind. Chowning and Pavelka wound up one-two in kills with eight and six, respectively.

The Black and Gold (4-11) return to Stauffer-Wolfe Arena for their 2014 HCAC opener Saturday, Sept. 27. MU faces off against Franklin College as part of a tri-match with St. Mary's College of Indiana.
