MU begins Virginia weekend

FREDERICKSBURG, VA. – Manchester University placed three players in kill double figures to highlight their effort during Friday, Sept. 5, play at the University of Mary Washington tournament.

Sophomore outside hitter Courtney Chowning (Yorktown, Ind.) led the Spartans (0-6) with 18 kills and 18 digs in matches against Randolph-Macon and Geneva. Junior middle hitter Devin Clark (Madison, Ind.) and junior outside hitter Sarah Pruden (Noblesville, Ind.) added 13 kills apiece, while Clark tallied a team-best two blocks, and Pruden served up two aces. Fellow junior Mikayla Munn (Elkhart, Ind.) had a strong evening from the setter spot with 43 assists and 11 digs.

Randolph-Macon parlayed a sparkling .221 team attack percentage to topple MU 25-15, 25-18, 25-16. The Black and Gold flirted with a potential victory against Geneva, taking the opposition to 27-25 and 25-22 first and third set finals but fell in three.

Manchester University continues action at the UMW tourney Saturday, Sept. 6. They take on Averett University at 12 p.m. and Lynchburg College at 4 p.m.
