MISHAWAKA, IND. – Sophomore Adriana Brown (Columbia City, Ind.) led the charge for Manchester University at Bethel College Monday, Sept. 8.

Brown fought past the Pilots' Alaina Donegan at number five singles, winning 7-5, 4-6, 10-7 for the Black and Gold's point in an 8-1 non-conference defeat. Coach Eric Christiansen's squad narrowly missed adding to their total.

Fellow sophomore Alaina Beckner (Columbia City, Ind.) took the second set against Megan Reed before succumbing 10-4 in the superbreak. Freshman Katie Peden (North Manchester, Ind.) had a strong collegiate beginning almost rallying from a 6-1 first set loss to Taryn Johnson with a 7-6 second set victory before Johnson hung on 10-6 in the superbreak. Two of the three doubles' clashes were close-knit, too, with the home side winning 8-5 at number two and 8-6 at number three.
