WEST INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – A sixth straight appearance in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference postseason tournament for Manchester University was halted by strong doubles play from third-seeded Anderson University Friday, Oct. 16.
Despite picking up four-or-more game wins at each turn, the sixth-seeded Manchester University Spartans couldn't get over the hump at any of the three slots. The Ravens opened a 3-0 lead after claiming 8-4 and 8-4 finals and No. 1 and No. 3 and an 8-5 decision at No. 2. From there, a pair of singles victories at No. 2 and No. 3 closed out the 5-0 decision, sending AU to semifinal round play Saturday, Oct. 17.
The Black and Gold concluded their fall season at 3-7. Junior Adriana Brown (Columbia City, Ind.) wound up as the singles' win and win percentage leader (5-4/55.5 pct.). The doubles pairing of senior Megan Buckner (Muncie, Ind.) and sophomore Katie Peden (North Manchester, Ind.) ended atop the doubles' chart in wins (4-6) and were tied with the tandem of junior Alaina Beckner (Columbia City, Ind.) and freshman Sierra Crane (Bedford, Ind.) for the percentage lead (2-3/40 pct.).
