Box Score 2 NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Manchester University's Class of 2016 put on quite a show for the home crowd inside Stauffer-Wolfe Arena Saturday, Oct. 24.
The Spartans rolled past visiting Governors State 25-17, 25-17, 25-14 to capture their ninth win of the season. At each turn on the final statistics, one of Coach Bryndon Paulsen's seniors was leading the way.
A quartet, featuring outside hitter Sarah Pruden (Noblesville, Ind.), right side hitter Tiffany Clark (North Manchester, Ind.), middle hitter Devin Clark (Madison, Ind.) and middle hitter Morgan Pavelka (Noblesville, Ind.) made it difficult on the Jaguars' front line defense. Pruden tallied 12 kills as part of a kills-digs double-double, as she dug 10 up 10 GSU attack attempts; Devin Clark drilled five kills to go with a .444 attack percentage; Pavelka registered seven kills and was above .300 in attack percentage; and Tiffany Clark, topping a .356 team attack percentage, ended with eight kills, a blistering .727 attack percentage, four service aces and four digs. Setter Mikayla Munn (Elkhart, Ind.) got the offensive outburst going with 34 assists, while the back row combination of Randa Gillespie (Portland, Ind.) and Sara Anderson (Union, Mich.) tallied nine digs apiece.
In the first match of the afternoon, Huntington University used a late first-set rally to propel itself to a 27-25, 25-18, 25-13 decision over the Black and Gold. Junior outside hitter Courtney Chowning (Yorktown, Ind.) registered a kills-digs double-double (11 kills and 10 digs), and Pavelka and freshman middle hitter Hannah Tevis (Royal Center, Ind.) proved strong again up front. Pavelka ended with seven kills and a .417 attack percentage to take her run of successive outings with a .200 or higher accuracy to seven, and Tevis tallied eight kills, a .400 attack percentage and a solo block.
MU (9-16) closes the 2015 regular season Saturday, Oct. 31, hosting Earlham College. The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference clash is set for a 1:30 p.m. first serve.
