NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – A two-dual week to begin its 2015-16 fall campaign saw visiting Bethel College of Mishawaka, Ind., claim an 8-1 win over Manchester University Thursday, Sept. 10.
Junior Adriana Brown (Columbia City, Ind.) carried the flag for the Spartans on their home outdoor courts. She cruised past Megan Reed 6-1, 6-1 at number six singles for the team point.
"(Bethel) is always good and a tough test," Coach Eric Christiansen said. "It was a good test to see where we were at with Earlham College coming in Saturday for the conference opener.
"Adriana just went out and does what she does in getting the point," he added. "She's a great competitor. I know the rest of the team isn't satisfied with the way their matches came out and is looking forward to getting another opportunity soon."
Sophomore Katy Ashpole (Leesburg, Ind.) just missed forcing a third set at number three singles, dropping a 7-5 final in the first set. She and fellow sophomore Erin Cordill (Zionsville, Ind.) gave the Pilots' top team of Caroline Boger and Adrianna Ward all it could handle, falling 8-5.
Earlham comes to North Manchester for a 12 p.m. first serve Saturday, Sept. 12.
