Quartet leads way at Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE, OHIO – Manchester University had four players tally double-digit kills, highlighting its afternoon at the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational.

Despite a pair of three-set losses to Alma College of Michigan out of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association and Grove City College of Pennsylvania out of the Presidents' Athletic Conference inside Branch Rickey Arena on OWU's campus, MU, dipping to 4-7, did receive 17 kills from junior outside hitter Courtney Chowning (Yorktown, Ind.); 13 kills from senior outside hitter Sarah Pruden (Noblesville, Ind.); 11 kills from senior middle hitter Morgan Pavelka (Noblesville, Ind.); and 10 kills from freshman middle hitter Hannah Tevis (Royal Center, Ind.) among the team's 61 total kills. Tevis' .259 attack percentage led the group.

In other Spartans' statistics, freshman setter Dakota Stanichuk (Troy, Mich.) resumed her impressive first collegiate season with 33 assists and four service aces, both team highs. Chowning registered a double-double adding 26 digs to her 17 kills, while Pavelka tallied two block assists.

The Black and Gold look to snap a four-match skid when Indiana University – Northwest comes to Stauffer-Wolfe Arena for a 7 p.m. first serve Thursday, Sept. 24.

NOTES: Chowning gained her second all-tournament honor to wrap up MU's run of three successive weekend tournaments. She spotlighted her day with 11 kills, 17 digs and four assists against Grove City in which the Spartans pushed the Wolverines to 31-29 and 26-24 finals in the first two sets … Stanichuk served up four aces and sent 32 assists to the front row attack against Grove City. It was the fifth time she's had multiple service aces and the sixth match in which she's registered 30-or-more assists … MU's middle hitting duo of Pavelka and Tevis led the way against Alma. Tevis attacked at a .375 clip, while Pavelka finished with four kills and a .273 percentage.
