Box Score

TERRE HAUTE, IND. - A strong offensive attack, bolstered by junior outside hitter Courtney Chowning (Yorktown, Ind.) and freshman middle hitter Hannah Tevis (Royal Center, Ind.) propelled Manchester University to a key Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory Wednesday, Sept. 30.

Chowning hammered a team-leading 12 kills as part of a double-double with 16 digs. Tevis resumed her sparkling first-year campaign, tallying 10 kills, a .273 attack percentage and four blocks, two of which were solos. Senior middle hitter Morgan Pavelka (Noblesville, Ind.) added her name to the offensive leaders, garnering impressive results, as she struck seven kills as part of an ethereal .500 attack percentage.

Manchester University, improving to 6-9 overall and 1-1 in the conference, got out of the gate fast at Rose-Hulman's Hulbert Arena, producing a .350 attack percentage in a 25-21 victory. The Black and Gold followed that with successive 25-21 and 25-23 decisions for the sweep. It was the first win in the series against the Fightin' Engineers since 2008 overall and 2007 at Terre Haute.

The Spartans resume a busy week of conference competition Friday and Saturday, Oct. 2 and 3. They host Transylvania University of Kentucky Friday at 7 p.m. and Hanover College at 3 p.m. with both matches set at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena.
