Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ADRIAN, MICH. – Junior outside hitter Courtney Chowning (Yorktown, Ind.), senior middle hitter Morgan Pavelka (Noblesville, Ind.) and freshman middle hitter Hannah Tevis (North Bend, Ohio) found their names at the top of several Manchester University statistical categories Friday, Sept. 4.

Chowning drilled a team-high 19 kills in match-ups against Olivet College and Albion College out of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association during day one of the 2015 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference – MIAA Crossover Challenge. Tevis was right behind her with 16 kills and guided the blocks category (six), while Pavelka finished with 10 kills, six blocks and five service aces.

Despite falling to 0-3, the Black and Gold gave Olivet all they could handle in the opening contest. Coach Bryndon Paulsen's squad rallied from a 25-22 first set loss with a 25-22 second set win and ended just short in sets three and four by 22-25, 21-25 scores. They had similar near misses in their second appearance ending up on the short end of 25-20 and 25-23 counts in the first and third sets versus Albion.

MU resumes play in the Crossover Saturday, Sept. 5. They take on Kalamazoo at 2 p.m. and the host Bulldogs at 4 p.m.

NOTES: Freshman setter Dakota Stanichuk (Troy, Mich.) made the most of her first two starts in a Black and Gold uniform with a combined 46 assists in seven sets … Tevis and Chowning compiled a lions' share of their attack numbers against Olivet. Tevis finished with 11 and a sparkling .310 attack percentage, while Chowning ended with 10.
