NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Manchester University gained five of six singles wins and was victorious in two of three doubles chances, leading to a 7-2 win over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opponent Adrian College Thursday, April 14.
The Spartans, closing the 2015-16 campaign at 4-9, got out to a fast start at the Manchester High School courts. The doubles' pairings of sophomores Erin Cordill (Zionsville, Ind.) and Katy Ashpole (Leesburg, Ind.), at No. 1, and senior Rissa Loc (Kalamazoo, Mich.) and freshman Sierra Crane (Bedford, Ind.) claimed 8-6 and 8-2 decisions, respectively. Singles saw more of the same from the home team, as Cordill, Ashpole, junior Adriana Brown (Columbia City, Ind.), Crane and Loc each took wins.
MU opened the final week of the season, dropping a close-knit 5-4 decision to Grace College Wednesday, April 13. Cordill, Brown, Crane and Loc all gathered singles' wins to highlight the afternoon.
NOTES: Brown and Cordill led the final singles' win ladder. Brown finished 7-4 at numbers four through six, and Cordill went 6-6 at number one … In doubles play, Cordill and Ashpole and the team of sophomore Katie Peden (North Manchester, Ind.) and senior Megan Buckner (Muncie, Ind.) each tallied four victories.
