FORT WAYNE, IND. – The trio of senior Alaina Beckner (Columbia City, Ind.) and juniors Mariam Aly (Giza, Egypt) and Erin Cordill (Zionsville, Ind.) each picked up singles wins to lift Manchester University in its women's spring section opener Saturday, Feb. 25.
They each held their Alma College opponents to four game wins or less to put three points on the Black and Gold's team total at Wildwood Racquet Club including Cordill who earned her 10th victory of the season, a first for the program since 2013-14. With a split of the singles in their back pocket, Coach Eric Christiansen's side salted away its seventh win of the year by winning two of three in doubles. Beckner joined her classmate and fellow Columbia Citian Adriana Brown to win 9-7 at number two, while Aly and Cordill won by a similar score at the top doubles' meeting to close out the 5-4 final over their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opponents.
Manchester University gets back on the court Saturday, April 15, at Franklin College.
