Box Score NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Manchester University rallied against host St. Mary's (Ind.) College for a thrilling five-set victory on Wednesday September 11.
The Spartans dropped the first set on Wednesday night by a 25-19 final score but battled for a hard-fought, thrilling 31-29 triumph in the second set. St. Mary's narrowly took the third set 25-19, however the Spartans mustered a yet another comeback and claimed both the fourth and fifth sets by scores of 25-22 and 15-9.
Four Spartans reached doubled figures in kills against the Belles on Wednesday night. Helaina Walters (Marion, Ind./Eastbrook) tallied 16 kills to lead Manchester. Halle Planck (Gas City, Ind./Mississinewa) added 15 kills on the evening while Kara Heckmuller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) finished with 14 kills. Samantha Campbell (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) was the fourth and final Spartan to reach double figure in kills, ending Wednesday's contest with 12. Campbell also had six block assists.
Lauren Gandhi (Westfield, Ind./Guerin Catholic) posted totals of 37 assists and 11 digs against the Belles. Alexandria Collins (Lowell, Ind./Lowell) added 20 assists. Rachel Ressler (Tipton, Ind./Tipton) led the Spartans with 23 digs. Anna Marie Lawrie (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) finished with 21 digs on Wednesday.
With the victory, Manchester won consecutive matches for the first time on the young season and improved to 3-4. St. Mary's (Ind.) dropped to .500 this fall. The Belles now sit at 4-4.
MU will be back in action on Wednesday September 18 in a road rematch against Kalamazoo. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
