NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Manchester University volleyball team was in action on Friday night, hosting a non-conference doubleheader against Adrian College.

The Spartans and Bulldogs split Friday's doubleheader in Stauffer-Wolfe Arena, with Adrian taking the first match in straight sets, while the Spartans surged for a 3-1 victory in the second match of the night.

Match #1 – Adrian Won 3-0, 25-16, 25-18, 25-22 – Box Score

* The Bulldogs found their footing early in the first match on Friday night, winning in straight sets.
* Adrian hit .226 and was led by Blaire Weiman's 15 kills.
* Hailey Farrell dished out 16 assists for the Bulldogs.
* The Black and Gold slowly began to find a rhythm in the second and third sets.
* Joy Maze (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood Community) led a balanced Spartan attack with eight kills and three blocks.
* Alexandria Collins (Lowell, Ind./Lowell) reached double figures in assists with 12.
* Both Mackenzie Rooks (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) and Jordan Holland (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) posted 10 digs in the first match on Friday.
* Rachel Ressler (Tipton, Ind./Tipton) had a pair of service aces and finished with six digs.

Match #2 – Manchester Won 3-1, 23-25, 25-12, 25-21, 27-25 - Box Score

* Manchester showed some grit and battled past a back-and-forth setback in the first set by winning three consecutive sets to secure its first win of the year.
* The Spartans opened up double-digit leads in both the second and third sets, while clawing back from a late deficit to steal a 27-25 triumph in set four.
* Both Halle Planck (Gas City, Ind./Mississinewa) and Helaina Walters (Marion, Ind./Eastbrook) finished the second match with 11 kills apiece.
* Senior Lauren Gandhi (Westfield, Ind./Guerin Catholic) tallied a match-high 22 assists. Freshman Megan Huys (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) chipped in 17 assists. Huys also had eight service aces.
* The Black & Gold were boosted by the active play of Rachel Ressler.  Ressler anchored the Manchester University defense, collecting 11 digs, while also picking up a pair of key service aces. Ressler also had three assists. 

Manchester (1-3) will host Bluffton University on Sunday, Oct. 25, beginning at 1 pm in Stauffer-Wolfe Arena in a non-conference doubleheader.

Adrian (3-4) will travel to Bluffton tomorrow (Oct. 24) for a non-conference doubleheader at Bluffton.
