Box Score 2 NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - Visiting Huntington University swept a non-conference doubleheader against the Manchester University Spartans on Monday evening at the MU Softball Field.
Huntington won game one by a final score of 5-1. The Foresters took game two of the day by an 11-3 count.
Game 1 – Huntington 5, Manchester 1 – Box Score
Huntington collected 11 hits and scored runs in the second, third, fourth, and sixth innings to beat Manchester 5-1.
Janessa Hasty led Huntington with a 3-3 effort at the plate, driving in three runs.
The Spartans scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning when Alexis Mokos (Cedar Lake, Ind./Hanover Central) scored on a passed ball.
Meghan Fretz was strong all game in the pitcher's circle for HU. Fretz limited Manchester to just a pair of hits and struck out eight batters.
Game 2 – Huntington 11, Manchester 3 – Box Score
The Foresters used seven-run top of the seventh inning to pull away from the Spartans in the second game of Monday's non-conference doubleheader.
Both teams traded leads with Huntington taking an early 2-1 advantage before the Spartans battled ahead 3-2 in the fourth.
Huntington tied the game in the top of the fifth with a single to right and went ahead for good with a run in the top of the sixth.
Sarah Tribby (Lebanon, Ind./Lebanon) drove in a pair of runs for the Black and Gold. Mallory Sands (Gas City, Ind./Mississinewa) went 2-3 at the plate with a double.
Manchester (1-2) will return to action on Sunday March 15 against Farmingdale State in Florida. The Spartans are scheduled to play 12 games in the Sunshine State during Spring Break.
Huntington improved the 5-4 on the season and will take on Spring Arbor on March 13.
