Spartans Down Kalamazoo 60-43 in Home Opener

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Manchester University women's basketball team knocked off visiting Kalamazoo College by a final score of 60-43 in the team's home opener on Friday November 12.

The Black & Gold led from start to finish and built as large as a 27-point lead in the contest. The biggest stat from Friday's home opener was that the Spartans pressured Kalamazoo into committing 35 turnovers. Manchester converted those 35 turnovers into 32 points.

Senior guard Miranda Bieghler (Plainfield, Ind./South Putnam) led a balanced Manchester scoring attack with 12 points. She added a career-high 6 steals in the win. First-year guard Eva Bazzoni (Wabash, Ind./Manchester) added 10 points and 4 steals. Sophomore forward Alyssa Pfeil (Goshen, Ind./Concord Community) posted career-highs of 9 points and 7 boards. Nine different Spartans scored in Friday's win.

The Spartans shot 22-63 (34.9 percent) in the home opener. Kalamazoo was limited to just 14-44 (31.8 percent) shooting. 34 of Manchester's 60 points came in the paint on Friday evening.

The Spartans (1-1) will have a week off before their next contest. Manchester will host Adrian College at home in Stauffer-Wolfe Arena on Saturday November 20. Game time scheduled for 1 p.m.

Kalamazoo (0-1) will return to action on Tuesday November 16 with a road trip to Hiram College in Ohio. Game time against the Terries is scheduled for 7 p.m.
