RICHMOND, Ind. – The Manchester University women's basketball team won its fifth straight game on Saturday afternoon following a 67-49 victory at Earlham College.
The Spartans scored 47 points in the 3
rd and 4
th quarters. Manchester outscored the Quakers 47-25 over the game's final two periods on Saturday.
Leading the 2nd half surge for Manchester was senior
Miranda Bieghler (Plainfield, Ind./South Putnam). Bieghler led all scorers on Saturday with a career-high 21 points. Bieghler shot 4-9 from the field and was a perfect 3-3 from beyond the three-point arc. Bieghler also finished 10-12 at the free throw line and added 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals.
Joining Bieghler in double figures were fellow seniors
Macy Miller (Huntertown, Ind./Carroll) and
Bridget Nash (Carmel, Ind./Bishop Chatard). Miller posted her third career double-double with 16 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Miller also blocked a pair of shots. Nash added 11 points in the win over the Quakers.
Earlham was held to 32.7 percent (18-55) shooting by the Manchester defense. The Spartans also forced Earlham into 20 turnovers on the afternoon. The Black & Gold also outrebounded Earlham 39-25.
The Black & Gold once again came up clutch at the free throw line in the win. Manchester finished 27-37 (73 percent) and were a +17 at the charity stripe.
The Spartans (5-1, 2-0 HCAC) won for the fifth consecutive outing and will have a week off before welcoming Franklin College to Stauffer-Wolfe Arena on Saturday December 11. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Earlham (0-6, 0-1 HCAC) will host Rose-Hulman on Wednesday December 8 at 7:30 p.m.
