NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Manchester University women's basketball team defeated the Earlham College Quakers by a final score of 80-62 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday January 22.
Back inside the friendly confines of Stauffer-Wolfe Arena, the Spartans improved to 5-1 at home following the win.
The Spartans led throughout Saturday's contest, and their winning effort was aided by some clutch foul shooting. Manchester finished 29-33 from the free throw line – good for an 87.9 percent clip. The Spartans were a +21 from the charity stripe.
First-year guard
Eva Bazzoni (Wabash, Ind./Manchester) led Manchester with a strong outside shooting performance. Bazzoni scored 22 points on the strength of 7-13 shooting from the floor and 6-10 shooting from beyond the three-point arc. Bazzoni added six rebounds.
Macy Miller (Huntertown, Ind./Carroll) added 18 points and five rebounds for Manchester. Miller also shot 7-13 from the field.
Miranda Bieghler (Plainfield, Ind./South Putnam) also scored in double figures, finishing with 12 points. Bieghler added seven assists.
Madison Stamm (Fortville, Ind./Anderson Prep) chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench on Saturday. In total, nine different Spartans scored in the win.
The Spartans (7-7, 4-3 HCAC) will travel to nationally-ranked Transylvania University on Wednesday January 26 for a 1 p.m. matchup with the Pioneers.
