TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Manchester traveled down to Rose-Hulman for HCAC action on Saturday. The Fightin' Engineers rolled to victory with an impressive score of 14-48.Â
The Engineers started off strong scoring on their opening drive. Manchester wasn't able to respond as Rose scored 34 unanswered point through the first quarter and majority of the second. The Spartans were finally able to breakthrough with 2:08 left in the first half asÂ
Eric James (Indianapolis, Ind., Decatur Central)) was able to connect with
Joseph Powell (Beach Park, Ill., Zion Benton) for a 21-yard touchdown pass. The Fightin' Engineers tacked on one more touchdown before the end of the half to stretch the lead to a comfortable 7-41.Â
The Spartans defense settled in a bit more in the second half. They held Rose scoreless in the third quarter. The Spartans offense was able to add another touchdown in the third quarter on
David Smith (Indianapolis, Ind., North Central) 2-yard touchdown carry bringing the score to 14-41.
The Black & Gold was unable to find the end zone the rest of the afternoon. The final score ended at 14-48. Manchester's offense accumulated 138 yards through the air and 124 yards on the ground respectively. The Manchester defense was lead behind a solid performance from Junior linebacker
Austin LeMar (Hobart, Ind., Boone Grove) who totaled 13 tackles in the game. Cornerback
Markell Jackson (Sarasota, Fla., Manatee)Â had a strong performance in the secondary picking up 7 tackles, 2 pass breakups as well as an interception on the day.Â
The Spartans will be in action back at home this Saturday as they host the Hanover College Panthers with a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.Â
