Spartans Down Kalamazoo 77-43

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Manchester women's basketball team traveled to Kalamazoo College on Saturday, November 26th for a non-conference matchup against the Hornets. The Spartans defeated the Hornets 77- 43.  

The Black and Gold took an early lead during Saturday's contest, scoring the first 11 points of the game. The Spartans outscored the Hornets 27-9 in the second quarter, stretching their lead to 48-20 going into halftime. 

Kalamazoo tried to cut the deficit, outscoring MU 14-11 in the third quarter. The Spartans would increase their lead to 36 points with a minute left in the fourth quarter, the largest lead of the game, and outscore their opponent 18-9 to take home the win. Manchester improved to 3-2 overall, while Kalamazoo fell to 0-4 on the season. 

First-Year
Jessie Ringen (Rensselaer, Ind., Rensselaer Central) led MU with 13 points on the afternoon. Fellow First-Year Abi Rosenkrans (Pendleton, Ind., Pendleton Heights) had 11 points and a team-high 9 rebounds for the Black and Gold. Jay'ana Blakely (Westville, Ind., Marquette Catholic) and Alexis Porter (Knoxville, Tenn., West)chipped in 9 points each during Saturday's contest, while Hailee Kline (Huntington, Ind., Blackhawk Christian) led Manchester with 6 assists. As a team, the Spartans shot 40.3% from field goal range and 52.9% from the free throw line. 

The Hornets were led by Kaelyn Arlington who finished the day with a double-double after scoring 13 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Jackie Brines added 10 points while Maddie Coffman had a team-high 3 assists on the afternoon. As a team, Kalamazoo shot 28.3% from two-point range and 75.0% from the free throw line. 

The Spartans will head to Defiance College on Wednesday, November 30th for their first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup of the season. Tip-off in Defiance, Ohio is set for 7:30 p.m.
