Spartans Win Four Straight After Victory at Earlham

RICHMOND, Ind. - The Spartans win four straight, two in conference play after defeating the Earlham College Quakers 60-58 on Saturday, December 3rd. Manchester improves to 5-2, 2-0 HCAC. 

Manchester took an early lead, jumping out in front of the Quakers 6-2 in the first quarter. Earlham would battle back, taking the lead 6-7 with 3:59 left on the clock. A good free throw by
Abi Rosenkrans (Pendleton, Ind., Pendleton Heights) would tie it up, but the Quakers would outscore the Spartans 15-11 in the first period. 

After a hard-fought first-half, a good three-point shot by 
Mia Shields (Arcadia, Ind., Hamilton Heights) put the Spartans up 30-27 with just under a minute left in the second quarter. 

The Spartans would outscore the Quakers 16-12 in the third period and extend their lead by 7 points before the start of the last quarter.  

A made jump-shot by Alexis Gibson for Earlham would tie the score back up in with 3:13 left in the game. The Spartans were able to hang on and win it 60-58. Manchester and Earlham saw 6 lead changes and 5 tied scores during Saturday's contest. 


Hailee Kline (Huntington, Ind., Blackhawk Christian) finished the day with a team-high 16 points for the Black and Gold. Hannah Lindsey (Speedway, Ind., Speedway) added 12 points on the afternoon. Fifth-year Bridget Nash (Carmel, Ind., Bishop Chatard) led the Spartans with 5 assists while Ally Graber (Mooresville, Ind., Mooresville) led MU with 7 rebounds. As a team, Manchester shot 32.3% (20-62) from two-point range, 32.1% (9-28) from three-point range, and 57.9% (11-19) from the free throw line. MU finished with 20 points in the paint and was able to score 12 points off turnovers.

The Quakers were led by Alexis Gibson who finished the night with a double-double after scoring 16 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Amari Bradford and Willow Runyon each chipped in 12 points for Earlham. As a team, The Quakers shot 32.4% (22-68) from field goal range and 44.4% (8-18) from beyond the three-point arc. The Quakers were able to score 14 points off turnovers and 20 points in the paint during Saturday's contest. With the loss, Earlham falls to 1-6, 0-1 HCAC. 

Manchester will be back-in action on Saturday, December 10th. Both the men's and women's basketball team will head to Franklin College for another HCAC doubleheader. The women are set to tip-off against the Grizzlies at 1:00 p.m. with the men to follow at 3:00 p.m.
